Why Windows 8 Will Be Great For Businesses
By Vernon YerkessPublished Feb 03, 2012
The launch of Windows 8 later this year is, without doubt, going to be a massive game changer.
And that potentially applies to any company that uses IT in the workplace.
I’ll tell you why in a second.
But first let me say that I’ve had a play with the new Windows operating system – admittedly only the beta developer’s version – but I can already tell you I have no doubt it’s going to be a winner.
For businesses, though, it’s not just about the fact that Windows 8 is likely to so interactive and accessible – after all we already have high level of interactivity with iPads and tablets running Android.
It’s much more about the fact that for the first time since tablets hit the market,
we’ll no longer need to use different devices for accessing and doing different tasks.
Why?
Because this operating system can, in theory at least, be synched seamlessly across all your devices.
That includes your Windows phone, your tablet running Windows 8, plus your notebook and desktop, also both running Windows 8.
So, at last we’ll have access to the full functionality of the almost universally familiar Windows Office on all devices – by using Office 365, which is designed specifically for use in the Cloud.
Think how transforming that could be to your business.
This, I think, is going to be the real reason businesses IT users are going to get excited about Windows 8.
Of course, it will also mean there’s a big new player muscling into the market place for tablet devices, one so long dominated by the Apple and Android operating systems. And this is a big player whose applications we’re nearly all already familiar with. So, the fight for market share will be an interesting one.
The new downloadable beta version of Windows 8 is due to be ready for download later this month. So watch this space because we’ll be among the first to test drive it and report on how it performs.
